For my research topic I am very interested in working on the personal communication of students at job corps. In the emails Dee Dee and I have exchanged she has expressed her opinion, that because of my background, I would be a strong fit for a one on one mentor for students to express their problems, disappointments, or just be someone to talk to. I want to dive deeper into this topic and attempt to see if there is a link between having a rough upbringing and poor communication skills.
This is something I am very passionate about, I myself had struggles in my youth and if I can help even one person to overcome their troubles and build towards a better life I will be extremely pleased with this project. As time continues and I progress with my service learning hours I would like to connect deeply with one student for this project. Preferably someone that has similar problems as myself. So I can compare their personality and communication skills to my own. I believe this tactic will help me successfully make the research paper narrowly focused enough. I am extremely excited to start the service learning project and learn more about the students of job corps and myself.
Great work Brandon! I'm excited just hearing you talk about it.
ReplyDeleteI can tell how you're obviously interested in your topic and that you feel strongly about it--both good indications of success for your project.
You mention a little about how you can keep your topic narrow, but I was wondering what kind of research you could do. What are some questions you could ask, then answer through research? Are you thinking of taking an interview/ethnographic approach, talking about one specific person?
I like how this is going!
Nice topic! The more your into it the easier it shold be. Talking to Dee Dee is a good start. Good Luck!
